Valencia – die schönste und entspannteste Stadt Spaniens!

Welche Städte fallen euch ein, wenn ihr an einen Städtetrip in Spanien denkt?
Barcelona? Madrid?

Ganz genauso ging es mir auch. Als wir vor ein paar Wochen beschlossen, einen Städtetrip in Europa zu machen, um Berlin ein paar Tage zu entfliehen, standen wir vor der Wahl. In Barcelona waren wir bereits zweimal und somit stand diese Stadt eher weiter hinten auf unserer Liste. Madrid hatten wir bisher noch nicht besucht, jedoch sagte mir mein Gefühl, dass dies nicht unser Ziel für diese Reise sein sollte. Der ausschlaggebende Grund, warum wir uns diesmal gegen Madrid entschieden haben war, dass ich bereits seit längerem eine ganz andere Stadt in Spanien im Hinterkopf hatte, welche auf meiner Reiseliste stand. Noch schnell ein paar Bilder via Pinterest angeschaut und unsere Entscheidung war getroffen. Flug und Unterkunft waren gebucht und es ging für uns für ein paar Tage nach – VALENCIA!

Which cities come to your mind when you think of a city trip in Spain?
Barcelona? Madrid?

That’s exactly how I feel. When we decided a few weeks ago to take a city trip in Europe to leave Berlin for a few days, we had the choice. We’ve already been to Barcelona twice and so this city was rather at the bottom of our list. We hadn’t visited Madrid yet, but my feeling told me that this should not be our destination for this trip. The biggest reason why we decided against Madrid was that I had a completely different city in Spain in mind for a long time, which was on my travel list. I checked some pictures of the City via Pinterest and our decision was made. Flight and accommodation were booked and we went for for a few days to – VALENCIA!

Die drittgrößte Stadt Spaniens mag bestimmt nicht an der ersten Stelle von so mancher Reiseliste stehen. Dies ist einerseits positiv, da diese Stadt im Sommer nicht von Touristen überrannt wird, wie zum Beispiel Barcelona, jedoch verdient Valencia definitiv mehr Aufmerksamkeit und hat innerhalb von drei Tagen unser Herz im Sturm erobert. Valencia besteht aus einer wunderschönen Altstadt, durch welche man gemütlich von Gasse zu Gasse schlendern und den spanischen Flair genießen kann. Hier ein leckeres Eis gegessen, dort ein Souvenir gekauft und an der nächsten Ecke erwarten euch leckere Tapas zum Mittag- oder Abendessen. 

Spain’s third largest city may not be at the top of many a travel list, which is positive on the one hand, as this city is not overrun by tourists in the summer, such as Barcelona. However, Valencia definitely deserves more attention and has conquered our hearts within three days. Valencia consists of a beautiful old town, through which one can stroll comfortably from alley to alley and enjoy the Spanish flair. Here a delicious ice cream, there a souvenir bought and at the next corner delicious tapas await you for lunch or dinner.

Zum anderen bietet die Stadt mit dem „Ciutat de les Arts i les Ciències„ oder auch „die Stadt der Künste und Wissenschaft“ genannt einen modernen Gebäudekomplex, welcher mich persönlich sehr beeindruckt hat. Es ist das komplette Gegenteil von der Altstadt und wurde erst 1998 fertig gestellt. Das komplette Konstrukt besteht aus mehreren Gebäuden, welche unter anderem aus einem Wirtschaftsmuseum, einem Aquarium und Planetarium besteht. 

On the other hand, with the „Ciutat de les Arts i les Ciències“ or also called „the city of arts and science“, the city offers a modern complex of buildings, which impressed me personally very much. It is the complete opposite of the old town and was only completed in 1998. The complete structure consists of several buildings, including an economic museum, an aquarium and a planetarium.

[Meine Tipps]

• Eis essen – wer glaubt, dass es in Italien das beste Eis gibt, mag vielleicht nicht falsch liegen, aber Valencia kann hier definitiv mithalten. Vor allem Eissorten wie Kinder Bueno klingen nicht nur köstlich, sondern schmecken auch so

• Valencia ist förmlich dafür gemacht, sich ein Fahrrad auszuleihen und die Stadt auf zwei Rädern zu erkunden.

• Durch das L’Umbracle laufen – ein von heimischen Pflanzen gesäumten Freiluftgang, der von weißen Bögen überdacht wird

• Mercat Central – ein absolutes Muss! Vergleichbar ist dieser Markt mit der La Boqueria in Barcelona, denn auch hier hat man die Möglichkeit Obst, frisch gepresste Säfte oder ein Stück des berühmten Serrano Schinkens zu kosten. Jedoch wird der Mercat Central in Valencia nicht von Touristen überrannt,  so wie man es in Barcelona kennt und es herrscht auf Grund dessen eine viel angenehmere und entspannterer Atmosphäre

• Den Abend auf einer Rooftop Bar ausklingen lassen und den Blick über die Stadt genießen 

[Seine Tipps]

• Wer von euch eher Team Frozen Joghurt ist, sollte definitiv einen Besuch bei Llaollao einplanen

• Besucht das größte Aquarium Europas und lasst euch von der Vielfalt der Unterwasserwelt entführen

• Picknick im Park, welches sich auch ideal mit eurer Fahrradtour verbinden lässt

• für alle Sportbegeisterten, gibt es in Valencia ebenfalls ein paar Pubs, wo man nicht nur ein Bier und überbackene Nachos essen kann, sondern z.B. auch das ein oder andere Fußballspiel verfolgen kann. Wir waren zum ersten WM Spiel von Deutschland in einem Irish Pub und fanden die Atmosphäre klasse, auch wenn die Fans von Mexiko definitiv mehr Spaß als wir an diesem Abend hatten

• Eating ice cream – those who think that Italy has the best ice cream may not be wrong, but Valencia can definitely keep up here. Above all, ice cream varieties like children’s Bueno not only sound delicious, they also taste delicious

• Valencia is literally made for renting a bike and exploring the city on two wheels

• Walk through L’Umbracle – an open-air passage lined with native plants and covered by white arches

• Mercat Central – an absolute must! This market is comparable to La Boqueria in Barcelona, where you can taste fruit, freshly squeezed juices or a piece of the famous Serrano ham. However, the Mercat Central in Valencia is not overrun by tourists, as you know it in Barcelona and because of that there is a much more pleasant and relaxed atmosphere.

• End the evening at a rooftop bar and enjoy the view over the city

• Any of you who’d rather be team Frozen Yogurt should definitely plan a visit to Llaollao

• Visit the largest aquarium in Europe and let yourself be carried away by the diversity of the underwater world.

• Picnic in the park, which can also be ideally combined with your bike tour

• For all sports enthusiasts, there are also a few pubs in Valencia, where you can not only eat a beer and baked nachos, but also watch one or two football matches. We were for the first World Cup match of Germany in an Irish Pub and found the atmosphere great, even though the fans of Mexico definitely had more fun than we had that evening.
